Elemental Records and Universal Music (UMG) present this special edition vinyl 180 gram gatefold binder. "Three for Shepp" portrays Marion Brown in one of the most daring and creative moments of his career - an artist who pays homage to the combative and visionary spirit of Archie Shepp while reaffirming with full personality an inflamed and deeply lyrical self-voice. Half of the repertoire is signed by Brown and the other half by Shepp, in a nod to the concept that inspired the famous "Four for Trane". Recorded in 1966, the album combines the raw energy of free jazz with soul-packed melodies, passages of intimate beauty, and collective bursts of enormous intensity. Brown alto sings, screams and rises alongside the expressive trombone of Grachan Moncur III, while Dave Burrell and Stanley Cowell speak of the piano. Norris Jones keeps the pulse out of the double bass and Bobby Kapp along with Beaver Harris prints a rhythmic power out of the battery. The result is the work of a visionary formation: an urgent, free and timeless artistic statement whose intensity still moves and resonates with full force today.
